March 2019 - Jeremy Hutzel

Tell us a little about you before you started at Nashletics.

I went to Orange Theory Fitness for about 18 months. Prior to that, I spent about 18 months going from couch to the Country Music Marathon.

What was the main reason you joined the gym?

I wanted to start CrossFit because I wanted more (and heavier) weight training in my fitness routine but without abandoning cardiovascular exercise. And a newly opened box seemed like a good place to start since I'd be on similar footing as many of the other members.

When did you find out Nashletics was the right place for you?

[It was the right place] when I realized it was more of a fitness community than just a fitness center. Mark and I are about the same age and our oldest kids are only 3 days apart - there was just a lot of "same place in life" that lined up well with some of the coaches and members. I've been very fortunate to make a lot of new friends there!

What has been your greatest achievement over the last 12 months?

I'm now in the best shape of my life, so there's a lot of goals I checked off last 12 months. But I'd have to say the biggest thing is I'm actually eating healthy for the first time in … well, ever. That's 100% due to Nashletics community influence.

What are your goals for 2019?

To fully RX the Open - and I get two chances this year!

What are your favorite things to do on your own time?

Spend time with my sons, I am a Predators season ticket holder, and my wife and I like to catch a concert at the Ryman at least every other month.

Tell us a fun story that most of us don't know about.

When I was a teenager I was playing basketball with some friends and my dad jumped in the game. I crossed him over so bad that he he fell forward and the top of his head broke my nose. It's the only bone I've ever broken, and sadly it was also the pinnacle athletic achievement of my life.

All other stories are not going in writing. You'll have to ask!
